Rose Coonen  |  Founding Attorney

Rose Coonen focuses her practice on estate planning, business planning and probate administration. Rose brings a holistic approach to serving her clients to ensure that they have estate plans and business plans that work when they need it most and to bring harmony in the most difficult times.

Rose’s passion is serving families with children with special needs and authored the book “Estate Planning When You Have a Child With Special Needs: Plan Your Estate Well, Protect Their Future” to serve as a guide to parents. She works with small businesses from start-ups through succession planning and everything in between to make sure they have a strong foundation in place by helping to establish core legal, insurance, financial and tax systems to minimize risk and position for growth.

Rose is also a Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA) joining an elite group of business advisors who are the cutting edge when it comes to the resources and knowledge needed to assist business owners through the entire cycle of creating, growing and preserving wealth.

When Rose is not advising clients, she enjoys spending time with her family, tasting a new wine or reading a good book.

Rebecca Johnson  |  Attorney

Rebecca Johnson is a highly experienced Michigan attorney specializing in estate planning, business planning, and complex real estate transactions. She brings a unified and comprehensive approach to serving her clients, ensuring they have legally sound plans that provide stability and peace of mind during crucial periods in their life.

In her Estate Planning practice, Rebecca is proficient in drafting various documents, including grantor and non-grantor Trusts, Wills, and Powers of Attorney. She regularly advises clients on complex issues such as beneficiary designations and the tax implications associated with gifts, bequests, lifetime gifts, and charitable contributions to effectively secure their legacy.

Furthermore, she assists clients with new business formation, mergers, acquisitions, and dissolutions, preparing entity formation documents for LLCs, LLPs, S-Corporations, and Corporations. Additionally, Rebecca is highly efficient in matters regarding the Michigan Liquor Control Commission, including obtaining, buying, selling, or clearing violations related to a liquor license. She also handles the necessary applications for temporary liquor permits for special events.

Rebecca possesses significant depth in Real Estate Law, handling sophisticated commercial and residential matters. Her background includes counseling clients on the sale and purchase of commercial real estate, obtaining and maintaining Farmland Development Rights Agreements (PA-116) with Michigan’s Department of Agriculture & Rural Development, resolving title issues, and preparing essential documentation such as deeds, mortgages, assignments, licenses and easements. Notably, Rebecca is skilled in real estate tax appeals, filing and arguing real estate tax appeals before local municipal boards and the Michigan Tax Tribunal.  This extensive experience in drafting, negotiating, and complex analysis enables her to deliver practical legal solutions tailored to each client's unique needs.

Originally from Central Michigan, Rebecca now resides in northeast Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her love for nature and the outdoors reflects her deep connection to the state. In her free time, Rebecca enjoys hiking with her dog, as well as baking and gardening.

Cristopher A. Hogan  |  Of Counsel

Cristopher A. Hogan is a distinguished attorney with over 30 years of experience in the legal field and is a frequent speaker on asset protection. He has extensive hands on experience in asset protection, and is currently a member of the Real Property Section; the Probate and Estate Planning Section; and the Taxation Section of the Michigan Bar Association. He has a Master’s Degree in Taxation (M.S.T) from the Seidman College of Business and a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Finance and Economics from Ferris State University. He also holds a Michigan Real Estate Brokers license and is a licensed attorney in the State of Michigan.

As of counsel at Coonen Law, PLLC, Cristopher brings experience in probate litigation, business transactional matters, business set-up and real property matters.

Donna Hogan  |  Paralegal

Donna Hogan is a dedicated and enthusiastic paralegal with a strong background in various areas of law. She holds a 2022 Diploma from Stratford Career Institute with honors and is a Notary Public for the State of Michigan. Donna has been a integral part of Hogan Law, P.C. since 2018, working closely with attorney Cristopher A. Hogan, and brings a wealth of experience to serving clients at Coonen Law, PLLC.

Her extensive experience spans probate matters, estate planning law, real estate law, business law, and all aspects of law firm administration. Known for her fun-driven personality, Donna brings a vibrant energy to her work, ensuring a positive and productive work environment.

Outside of her professional life, Donna’s passion lies in spending time with her three little dogs, camping with family and friends, and traveling.

Brooke Matthews  |  Drafting Coordinator

As the Drafting Coordinator at Coonen Law, PLLC, Brooke plays a vital role in ensuring our clients’ estate planning documents are accurate, thorough, and tailored to their unique needs. She is responsible for drafting all legal documents and answering any questions to ensure they align with each client’s specific goals and circumstances. Brooke graduated from Western Michigan University in 2022 with a degree in Criminal Justice. In her time away from the office, Brooke enjoys spending time with her husband and taking their dogs, Luna and Copper, on walks around the neighborhood.

Jenna Dolezan  |  Client Services and Marketing Director

Jenna Dolezan is our Client Services Director. She is the architect of exceptional client experiences at our firm. With a passion for clear communication, a commitment to ensuring client satisfaction and a knack for guiding you through every step of the process, Jenna is your trusted liaison on your journey with us.

Jenna graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2021 with a degree in Marketing. When she is not serving clients, Jenna enjoys spending time with her pets, Cosmo and Saturn, going to concerts and traveling.

Rochelle Reynolds  |  Legal Administrative Assistant

Rochelle Reynolds is the Legal Administration Assistant at Coonen Law, PLLC, where she helps foster a welcoming, organized, and efficient environment for both clients and the legal team. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Davenport University in 2024, with a focus on Management. Rochelle enjoys building meaningful connections with clients and being part of a team that supports them through important life moments. With a growing passion for the legal field, Rochelle is looking forward to expanding her career within the firm and continuing to take on new responsibilities as she works towards becoming a paralegal.

Nathan Coonen  |  Director of Operations

Nathan Coonen serves as the Director of Operations for Coonen Law, PLLC, where he applies his extensive background in strategic leadership and technology management to enhance the firm's efficiency and operational excellence. With a career spanning over two decades, Nathan has a proven track record of guiding organizations through technological evolution and fostering high-performing teams.

Previously, Nathan dedicated over a decade to a prominent managed services provider (MSP), excelling in several leadership capacities. As a vCIO, he delivered expert technology and business strategy consulting. In his role as Director of Development at this MSP, he significantly contributed to its growth and service capabilities by managing vendor relationships, developing staff training programs, and leading the strategic integration of new technologies. He also contributed to the company's strategic direction as a member of the MSP's leadership team for nine years.

Earlier in his career, Nathan developed a strong foundation in technology and team leadership, including a stint at Apple and various roles in technical support, network administration, and IT services. His comprehensive experience in both formulating technology strategy and managing its operational execution makes Nathan a pivotal asset to Coonen Law, ensuring the firm leverages technology effectively to achieve its strategic objectives and continues to deliver exceptional service to its clients.
